Haft Tappeh workers on strike again

Haft Tappeh strikers, December 2017.

Haft Tappeh Sugar Cane Company workers go on strike again.

This statement was issued by the Haft Tappeh Sugar Cane Workers’ Union on March 3rd 2018:

On Saturday, March 3rd, the workers of various parts of the Haft Tappeh Sugar Cane [Company] stopped work extensively.

The striking workers began their gathering at the factory premises and in front of the management office at 8:30am and demanded the payment of wage arrears for Dey [December 22nd-January 20th] as well as bonuses and end of the year bonuses.

According to news reports, a large number of retired workers were present at the workers’ protest gathering today. After they had no response, the retirees went to Mr Rostami’s [Chairman of the Board] office and argued with him. After the police intervened Rostami left the area. So far, the workers have not received any response from the employer.

It should be noted that over the past few days, the company’s management, together with several strike-breakers, have worked hard to prevent the Haft Tappeh workers’ strike by creating confusion, divisions and doubts. These self-appointed representatives had suggested that [the workers] should not disturb the “peace” since the employer has promised to solve the problems. But fortunately, today, we witnessed the presence of workers who have not been deceived by these plots and want to achieve their demands by their own strength.
Long live workers who fight for their rights and wages.
