This statement was issued by the Haft Tappeh Sugar Cane Workers’ Union on February 25th 2018:
Today, Saturday [February 25th], [there was a] gathering of Haft Tappeh Sugar Cane’s retired workers and agricultural workers.
The retired workers have been waiting for their benefits for nearly a year but so far their benefits have not been paid, meanwhile none of the company’s officials is responding to the workers’ [demands].
Also today, the day labourers of the agricultural sector stopped working because their Azar [November 22nd-December 21st] wages have not been paid and went on strike on the company’s premises.
These workers number more than 200.
Protest, strike, assembly, organisation, bread, freedom and a decent life are our rights.
A minimum wage of 5000 000 tomans [$1,338.50] is the workers’ general demand.
