Tehran protest in support of Haft Tappeh workers

On December 23rd tens of students, pensioners, teachers and political activists demonstrated in front of the Iranian regime’s Justice Department in Tehran.

They all declared their solidarity with the Haft Tappeh Sugar Cane Company workers and their main demand: revoke privatisation.

Slogans the protesters were chanting included:
The private principle be quickly cancelled, down with this neoliberal method.
Our struggle continues until privatisation is revoked!
Bread, work, freedom – council rule!
Students, workers, teachers, unity, unity!

Basiji students tried to shout down the demonstrators but were not successful. A number of activists were detailed and threated but were later released.

The demonstration took place following a call by the Haft Tappeh workers to coincide with the meeting of the arbitration panel that is to decide the fate of the sugar complex.
