Marzieh Amiri’s sham trial

Marzieh Amiri, one of the detainees of Labour Day 2019, is a correspondent for Shargh newspaper and a student of social sciences at the University of Tehran. On August 13th she was tried at Branch 28 of the Revolutionary Court in Tehran.

She was charged with “gathering and colluding to commit crimes against national security, propaganda against the system, and disturbing public order.” Her trial lasted about an hour in total, held in just one session! She will be sentenced in two weeks’ time.

Marzieh has been in temporary custody since May Day, and Judge Moghiseh, the head of Branch 28, has repeatedly opposed her release on bail.

In her defence, Marzieh Amiri has declared that she was innocent and stressed that she had always acted according to her duty as a journalist and a humanitarian.

The Shahrokh Zamani Action Campaign strongly condemns the arrest and continuing detention of activists and supporters of the labour movement in Iran. We call for the immediate and unconditional release of Marzieh Amiri, Atefeh Rangriz and Neda Naji who were arrested on May Day 2019. We call on all trade unionists, socialists and other political activists to help us in defending the rights of all workers, social rights’ activists and political prisoners in Iran.
